Now that working from home is the new 'norm', many organisations are having to adapt to the 'virtual world' and investigate new ways in which to train their teams.

With virtual learning having become an essential alternative to face-to-face training due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the shift happened almost overnight leaving companies little to no time to prepare.

Being agile, dynamic, and effective way to learn, grow and train, this is where eLearning comes to its fore. Here are just a few of the benefits of eLearning that can be deployed virtually to your teams during COVID-19 and in the future too.

Cost-effective

Training your employees can be a costly expenditure, however, not only does eLearning save your company money compared to instructor-led training, it does so much more. If we think about travel expenses, renting of training room space, infrastructure costs, trainer cost per hour, training materials, and paper and documentation costs eLearning is not only a cheaper option but a greener option too. Costs and benefits to the environment are major benefits of eLearning for both employers and employees.

Accessibility

With an increasingly global workforce working within different time zones, eLearning eliminates all restrictions, allowing individuals from all over the world to complete courses or training available to them 24/7 allowing the advantage of learning a subject at their own pace. Part-time employees or individuals who simply don’t have the necessary time to attend physical classes are no longer left behind.

Enhanced collaboration

It is possible to gain instant reach to staff and trainers from all around the world. One of the greatest benefits of eLearning is that it can be built to encourage online global collaboration as some eLearning solutions allow employees from different departments and various geographies to contribute to challenges and discussions in real-time from within the training module itself. Other advantages like instant connectivity to subject matter experts regardless of where they are located is a great way of collaborating virtually through eLearning.

Flexible

Today’s employees demand workplace solutions that fit with their lifestyles. Providing training that can be accessed when it works best for them accounts for your employee’s need for flexibility, thus improving overall employee morale. Learning and completing courses after work, in the evening, on the weekends or when they have spare time is possible through the provision of eLearning.

Scalable

It is just not feasible for a single instructor to teach a high number of employees in one physical classroom. Instead of trying to source various instructors and classroom space to dedicate to training a particular subject eLearning can easily be scaled up to roll out to as many employees, in as many languages or locations that you need.

Digital record keeping

This is one of the major benefits of eLearning when it comes to organisational value. Training, especially in large organisations can be an administrative nightmare, from booking instructors and meeting rooms to keeping training records up-to-date.

With online training, employees register directly on the organisations Learning Management System (LMS) where everything is digitally recorded, from which courses are available to them, to which courses have been completed.
